A Memoir of World War II on Java

Written by Boudewijn Van Oort

A Dutch heritage title

When WWII broke out in Europe and the Nazis occupied their homeland, two Dutch families living in South Africa moved to the Netherlands East Indies to contribute to the defense of the colony. Unfortunately for them, they were caught up in the Pacific war two years later, when the Japanese occupied Java and nearly all of the other islands. The men in the two families became prisoners of war. The author follows the two women for 4 years till they were reunited with their husbands and moved back to South Africa. Tjideng Reunion is told against the backdrop of the dramatic political and military events that unfolded around the 2 families and which changed so much the course of their lives.
