Personal accounts of the Nazi occupation of The Netherlands 1940-1945

Written by Albert VanderMey

A Dutch Canadian heritage title

In May 2020, the Canadian liberators, in some places joined by other Allies, rolled the last pockets of German Army resistance in Nazi-occupied The Netherlands. They helped to raise the dark curtain which had descended upon Germany's much smaller neighbor for five harrowing years. The grateful citizens, many undernourished and ill-clothed, lined the streets to give their liberators a hero's welcome.

The memories of the occupation will never be forgotten. Every five years, the returning and aging veterans who joined the liberation anniversaries have experienced a hero's welcome each time they came. This book is the powerful story of life under Nazi rule, as told by dozens of people who lived through that terrible time. The stories are illustrated by more than 150 photograph, including those borrowed from private collections.

Paperback, 320 pages, richly illustrated, A Dutch Heritage and WWII history title
