Photography by Herman Scholten

Over 150 photographs cover all facets of the Rotterdam experience, the second largest city in the Netherlands and the largest port of all of Europe. Situated on the banks of the Nieuwe Waterweg (which translates into New Waterway), the port had its genesis in the now quaint Delfshaven which grew into what many call the "Manhattan on the Meuse". Rotterdam remains a city on the move, very modern and in many ways so undutch yet surrounded by low-lying polders, dikes, waterlocks and huge flood barriers. The book’s photography surveys nearby Schiedam, Maassluis, the Maeslantkering flood barrier, and the country’s City of Glass, the Westland’s greenhouse district. Rotterdam’s industriousness is obvious from its ports, its container distribution points, and its huge petrochemical industry.

Paperback, 48 pages, Richly illustrated with colour photography, A general Dutch Heritage pictorial.
