The Story of Guide de Bres

Written by Bartha Hill-de Bres

The author presents the story of Huguenot pastor Guido de Bres as historical fiction, using quotes from authentic letters and other information from a variety of sources.

Her main character is Guido de Bres, the author of the Belgic Confession, who was martyred for his faith in Valenciennes in 1567 after all attempts to change his mind about his Reformed Christian faith had failed.

Moments before he was hanged with a fellow believer, Guido de Bres urged onlookers in a loud voice, “Honour those who have authority over you as far as your conscience allows you. Stand strong in what I have taught you. Remember I have taught you the plain truth of the Word of God…." Ages 12 and up.
