Every book has its own history. The story of this volume is also unique. Although the material presented in this book was written by the author, the publication of it in a book was news to him, a surprise for his thirty years in the ministry in 1944. And that occasion presented a problem; it occurred in the dark day of the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands and while the actual author was in hiding from the occupation authorities.

A prolific writer and polemicist, Professor Schilder battled on many fronts and challenged friend and foe with his analysis of the times and of commentaries and articles in print. Some of the collection of 64 in this volume, on a range of subjects, date as far back as over a century but which remain timely. Take it and read it and share it.
