A History of English and Scottish Churches of the Netherlands in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries

The story of the Pilgrim Fathers who left the Dutch Republic for the colonies in North America, after a period of exile in the Dutch Republic, has gain far more attention than did the history of all the other English and Scottish churches. Dutch church historian generally leave the subject unexplored. To his credit, American church historian Keith L. Sprunger has not and in his book on Dutch Puritanism offers an in-depth study of this ignored part of Dutch church history and understudied segment of the role the Dutch Republic played in offering refuge to Puritans from across the North Sea, and when they returned home, to Anglicans needing shelter. What did these Puritans believe and confess and how did they impact the theology of the Reformed Churches in the Dutch Republic of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries?
