Efforts toward reunion among Reformed and Presbyterian churches will succeed to the degree that the truths of Scripture, faithfully echoed by the Confessions, are truly experienced among God’s people by shaping their daily obedience and motivating their piety. Union efforts will succeed, as they did in 1892, also to the degree that avoid elevating theological (and historical) differences to the level of the Confessions. Reformed and Presbyterian Church history is replete with examples of this tragic mistake. In this light, Bouma’s book about the union of churches in The Netherlands is very relevant, also today's North American context that involves efforts to that end among the Canadian Reformed (CanRC) and the United Reformed Churches which came out of the Christian Reformed Church in N.A..
