A Quadricentennial Tribute, 1536-1936

Written by Harold S. Bender

Most Christians have at one time or other been introduced to a Mennonite but may only have a very general idea where the name Mennonite originated and may still less know of what this group, with roots in the 16th century Reformation, believes. This informative book offers an overview of Mennonite origin and beliefs. While their group identity has been named after the formerly Roman Catholic priest Menno Simons of Friesland, their roots can be traced to Swiss church reformers. A section of this brief history concludes with forty quotes from Menno Simons' writings

The author is the founder of both the Mennonite Historical Library and The Mennonite Quarterly Review. He served as President of the American Society of Church History, and was a major scholarly influence on fellow Mennonite theologian John Howard Yoder.
