Commentary written by John Brown as part of 'The Geneva Series of Commentaries'

Originally published in 1848 as 'Expository Discourses on the First Epistle on Peter' in Scotland, it was reprinted as a two-volume set in 1975 and again in 1980, which is the date of this one. Rev. John Brown served the Broughton Place church in Edinborough and as professor Exegetical Theology in the Divinity Hall of the Secession Church. The expository discourses were first delivered to his own congregation over a period of sixteen years.

C.H. Spurgeon commented that "we always think of Brown as a Puritan born out of due time. Everything he has left us is massive gold. He is both rich and clear, profound and perspicuous.' Of this out-of-print Commentary on 1 Peter, Spurgeon noted: 'It affords us a grammatical interpretation, together with an exposition, at once exegetical, doctrinal, and practical. It is a standard work.'
