Could the twin brothers be considered lucky, being the only concentration camp survivors from the Jewish community in the central Dutch centuries-old City of Elburg? And what about the few dozen out of 660 men deported from nearby Putten who returned after the war, were they lucky?
The author shows that for those who survived the war camps the suffering did not stop when they were liberated. They carried the burden with them for the rest of their lives, and even continued with their children and often with their grandchildren too....
The author tackles controversial subjects such as the 'second and third generation syndrome', the relationship of Judaism to Christianity and anti-Semitism. Although the subject deals with the serious issues in the daily life of the main characters, the author displays a fine sense of humour as well. Special Import.
