Written by Jane L. Aberson

Among the scribes in the Dutch press who tried to generate interest in life in Canada, Aberson stands out with her columns in Groningen-based Nieuwsblad van het Noorden that were noted for clarity, humour and poignancy. She quickly built a devoted readership far beyond that of the daily, a point underscored during Aberson’s popular, sold-out lecture tours during her visits to the Netherlands. Following a historical overview with notes by Dutch-Canadian historian Mark Boekelman, the book presents her columns from 1929 to 1936, although Aberson wrote for the paper for 37 years and was influential in attracting numerous emigrants from her home province and beyond.
