Twenty outlines on these epistles deal with the issue of the church being "in the world but not of the world. The epistles of James and Peter are more unified than appear at first glance. James instructs the Holy Catholic Church in the law of the Kingdom of Heaven. Knowing there always lurks the danger that the church will conform to the world, James spares no effort in the fight against world-conformity. In his first epistle, Peter encourages suffering believers to anticipate and accept the difficulties they encounter because of their faith, and exhorts them to stand firm, because they share in Christ's sufferings and participate in His glory. In his second epistle, he alerts the believers to the dangers of false teachers who have infiltrated the church.
